‘I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.’

John 10:10

God loved the world so much that in the fullness of time He sent Jesus his Son as our Saviour and Redeemer. (John 3:16)

During His life on earth, Jesus offered prayers to His Father, aloud and in silent tears (Hebrews 5:7). He still prays for us and calls some women to live in cloistered communities to share in His mission of prayer.

The Carmel of the Holy Spirit and our Lady of Peace, Dolgellau Wales is one such community, situated on the road ascending the breath taking Cader Idris mountain range.

Gold in the mountains

‘For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also’

—Matthew 6:21

Royal wedding rings have been made from Welsh gold, from Clogau, the mine near Dolgellau. Yet there are other treasures to be had, more precious and more lasting than gold. St Thérèse discovered this treasure in Carmel in her ‘Little Way’ of confidence and self-surrender to God where she learned to transform the trivial duties and daily chores of life into a channel of spiritual riches for all of God’s people.

If we follow St Thérèse, she holds out to us the possibility of cooperating with God in His saving work of sharing the riches of His eternal Kingdom with all, through a life of prayer and self-sacrifice. We can follow in the footsteps of Sts Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Thérèse and many other saints of Carmel by practising generosity and fidelity in little things within our reach.
